LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Several years ago, MPI began the Women’s Leadership Initiative to foster leadership among its members. A handful of local chapter members responded to the challenge and began the highly successful Mentor Next Door program that brought business and industry leaders in front of young members.

Now, the chapter needs and wants more. We need more women and men leaders to help the chapter grow and provide benefits to its members. We want our industry to continue its rise in stature by promoting and providing leadership skills development to our members so they can be better leaders professionally and personally.

In 2007, the MPI Board of Directors approved a change in bylaws to add a vice president and a director of leadership development to the board beginning in 2008-2009. The Women’s Leadership Initiative will now be known as Leadership Development directed by these board members. Learn more about our various LD committees and purpose.

Ways You Can Participate
Learning to lead is one of the most important things you can do for your career. The MPI Leadership Development initiative has a number of ways in which you can hone your leadership skills. These include becoming a mentor or a mentee. You can also volunteer for an MPI committee, attend meetings, or serve on the MPI board. We are also always on the lookout for panelists for our programs. Read below about our Mentor Next Door program and our college roundtables to find out how you can be a member of the next expert panel. Speaking as an expert panelist is a great way to earn points for CMP recertification.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

All Team Meetings

As a perk for giving your time on a chapter committee, current committee members are welcome to attend the three All Team Meetings held during the chapter year. The programs are designed for leadership skills development with an emphasis on chapter board of director service. See the calendar  to find out when the next All Team Meeting is scheduled.

Leader of the Month

In 2007, MPI MN instituted the Leader of the Month award. Board members nominate active committee members they wish to honor. The entire board of directors then votes to select the Leader of the Month, who will receive a prize from the current sponsor of the award. Leader of the Month recipients will be announced at the regular September, October, November, January, March and April MPI MN meetings. See a list of past recipients.

Mentoring: Power of 2

The Mentoring: Power of 2 program is available to all current members of the Minnesota Chapter of MPI. This program matches volunteer mentors from the local chapter with mentees for a three-month commitment. Mentoring is available to members at any stage in their career who are seeking to develop new skills or make progress toward professional goals. Learn more.
