Explanation of MPI MN communication tools »

Public Relations – External
This committee is for the people-person interested in extending his or her network within MPI by contacting and building relationships with media to bring exposure to MPI. This is a fun and very interesting committee that is very flexible and will offer you the opportunity to learn more about the media within our industry. Don’t worry if writing isn’t your thing; we need help building relationships with the media and ensuring we have a photographer at every MPI event.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month

Public Relations – Internal
The PR Internal Committee provides the opportunity for MPI MN involvement with Meetings of the Minds monthly newsletter, NewsNotes and other chapter publications. No prior experience needed. Everyone is welcome! Skills acquired through committee participation: writing copy, editing, proofing and bringing creativity to the mix!
Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month

Social Media
This committee updates and maintains the MPI MN Facebook page, LinkedIn account and “tweets about chapter events” on Twitter. If you have an interest in helping the newest sub-committee on Communications, this is the place for you. Be part of helping to grow the use of user-generated content about our chapter.

Social Media Committee Guidelines:
Each member of the social committee will be responsible for posting all social media posts on a rotating week-long schedule.

  • Facebook/LinkedIn: 50-word limit. If the person submits more than 50 words to be posted, the message will be edited. We understand some circumstances require more than 50 words, such as recognizing numerous members for an accomplishment. This will be left to the Social Media Committee’s discretion.
  • Twitter: 140-character limit set by Twitter. The person submitting the post must submit 140 characters or fewer.
  • Posting urgency: Social media communication will be posted within 24 hours of when the Social Media Committee receives the information. If more than one post is sent per topic, the timing of the posts will be at the discretion of the Social Media Committee.

Website
This committee updates and maintains the MPI MN website, monitors reaction to the chapter’s new website, provides enhanced services through the site, develops guidelines for submission and placement of materials on the site, and works with the Communications Team to improve awareness and usage of the MPI MN website. This is a low commitment and easy to help pass along information from other committees to Nonprofit Solutions to post to the MPI MN website.
Time commitment: 3-5 hours per month
