The promotions of MPI’s WEC 2014 are well under way and are led by the marketing committee co-chairs Amanda DePhillips, marketing director for Meet Minneapolis and Lisa Marie Borchert, senior meeting planner at Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America. The committee’s focus is to garner the attention of the planning world and ensure we have a good turnout this summer in Minneapolis at WEC.
The marketing of WEC will most likely be centered around the concept of ‘Discovery’ and include Minneapolis’ City by Nature theme highlighted in the opening and closing receptions. Hosting an event that consistently reiterates the same message is vital to ensure our guests leave not only with a great experience, but an experience with a message they can share.
To ensure this message is woven throughout the city during MPI, the committee is also making sure the city and surrounding areas are aware of WEC and the positive effect it will have on Minneapolis as a whole. This will include upcoming speaking engagements including a word from Michael Dominguez, chairman of MPI’s Board of Directors at the March 19 chapter meeting.
“It is important for our city to understand the importance of hosting this event,” says Amanda DePhillips, marketing director at Meet Minneapolis. “It is an opportunity to not only showcase our city to these individuals, but also the future meetings these planners could bring back.”
As we enter into 2014, a big year for the hospitality industry in the city, we have the opportunity to shed light on our city and our state to the world. To engage the community in the preparation for WEC, Meet Minneapolis has invited Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International, as the special guest of the March 4, 2014 annual meeting. Keynote speaker, talk show host, communication coach, author — Roshini Rajkumar is slated to lend her expertise in moderating a discussion with Meet Minneapolis leaders and Van Deventer regarding the meetings industry and how “when we meet, we change the world.”
In addition to the appearance of Van Deventer, Meet Minneapolis will be hosting a hospitality-training program this spring for frontline hospitality professionals as well as a complementary taxi carwash to keep the city sparkling for our guests.
