“Help, I need Somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know, I need someone

Lyrics: John Lennon & Paul McCartney

I like finding the irony in life at times.  Take this morning for example, as I was driving into work trying to think about how do I start this article for August – what song do I hear on the radio “Help” by The Beatles.  The irony is not that I needed help to start the article, but rather I wanted to talk about volunteering and getting involved in the chapter.  Basically, the chapter needs your help.  There is no sugar coating it – without the support of our amazing volunteer members there would be no e-newsletter what you are reading now, no monthly opportunities to connect your Meeting Industry colleagues, no mentor cafes, no holiday party silent auction, no Spring CSR event, nor our donations to charity.

The August monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 16th is the perfect opportunity to learn about our 5 different committees prior to the meeting. Do not fret that by signing your name down to volunteer that you are signing away what little free time we all have.  By signing your name, you are stating that you want to give back and help our chapter in some way.  What you gain as a volunteer is so much more than the couple hours in a month you may volunteer.  As soon as I started volunteering and engaging with the chapter – I realized that the chapter is not a clique, but rather a safe place to connect with key leaders in our industry.

Now it is up to you – how you want to engage with our chapter.  It can be as little as 1 hour a month to taking on chairing events.  I do hope that you will sign your name down on a committee volunteer sheet – you won’t regret it.

Just as The Beatles say in the song: “Help, I need Somebody and I do appreciate you being around.”
